Social Networking Job Trends 2012 #jobs

with one comment

In 2008, and again early 2011, I wrote articles about the Social Networking Job Trends, again I checked the graph I’d included, continued to be updating and had shot over 1% of all the job postings on Indeed.com in December 2011. Perhaps these employers and sourcers should be reading Why I Will Never, Ever Hire A “Social Media Expert”:

Social media is just another facet of marketing and customer service.
Say it with me.

What else could this mean?

It’s obvious to me that this graph shows that Social Media as a term is winning ground over web2.0, which is lost from the mid 2011 high of 0.35%.

6 Months of Security Links #2011

leave a comment »

I’m a regular curator of daily links, and like to give overviews of my collection of curated links and posts. This is partly as there are some good sources and articles in here and as I am working on a research project which I started based on a number of books I read.

I’m sure you’ll find something interesting in the items below – there are some gems in the list – and I dare to hazard the guess you might learn something you wanted to know. 🙂

meetSue this Sunday #networking #event

leave a comment »

Tomorrow from 17:00 to 20:00 I’ll be at an event called . It’s a networking event for different walks of life, I just received a preview of the guest list and I’m impressed. Aside from people I know there are a wide variety of people from all walks of life: coaches; directors; lawyers; graphical designers; art dealers; artists; trainers; clothing designers and retailers; and healthcare, merchandising, public relations, marketing and sales professionals.

Besides from the guests there are some exceptional entrepreneurs whose task is to inspire, tell their story, share their knowledge and expertise, and answer questions.

There is still time to register so you to can join the fun in the baggage hal of Loods 6 on KNSM Island in Amsterdam. Come for a drink, a snack and expect an inspiring evening.

Guests are kindly requested to donate for the continuation of meetSue.

Sunday, February 20 from 17:00 to 20:00 has organized a networking event and you’re invited! This time in a new and exciting venue: the baggage hal of Loods 6 on KNSM island. Obviously, easy to reach by car and public transport.

The program of this third meetSue networking event: as little as possible! We have created a networking evening which stimulates in our own unconventional way. But obviously with a few special features. There is live music and we have some exceptional entrepreneurs present to inspire the guests of meetSue. They are there to tell their story, share their knowledge and expertise, and answer questions. Topics can be anything including social media, marketing, business in general and much much more. The meetSue way, not with a microphone in hand and a Powerpoint presentation. How? meetSue and be amazed!

As we want to keep meetSue open for everybody, we don’t ask for entrance fee. We do ask our guests to contribute € 7.50. Come for welcome drink, snacks and expect an inspiring evening. Looking forward to February 20th!

You can register here.

Online Networking translates into 9% revenue increase says ING Bank #business

De Zaak Logo

ING and Dutch entrepreneur group de Zaak, which I believe is heavily sponsored by the ING, preformed research in the Netherlands amongst entrepreneurs. It shows most of the online networkers use LinkedIn (91%) for their business networking, although Facebook (40%), Twitter (34%) and Hyves (30%) lag behind it shows that they are also contributing also.

60% of entrepreneurs who network traditionally, said their sales increased because of their networking activities. They calculate this as a 12.5% revenue increase. 20% of online networkers say that turnover has also increased by nearly 9%.

Social Media Syndication – Feedback Loop

with 2 comments

Screaming Man - geishaboy500

In the last two days I’ve not been posting so much, and focussing on updating my “Social Media Syndication” flowchart. During the building of this which includes over 100 services I made some configuration errors, which lead to a number of services taking their input from or and reposting this to another site which reposted this to Twitter or Ping.FM. This has show me that in principle the application of Social Media Syndication can be an even more powerful tool than I first realized. (Which I will explain in a later post.)

As I have always said is that I make mistakes so my clients don’t have to, and in this case I made some mistakes which is helping me to create a new flowchart which can – under the terms of Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 – be used by all to ensure that they can be available on multiple platforms. Naturally this doesn’t remove the essential human element that is the primary part of Social Media.

I will be able to share this with the world at the end of November, I’m going to release more than just the result image this time and will release the source document in an open format so that it can be extended for mashups and remixes can be made.

Going to a Conference?

leave a comment »

I was answering the question on ‘s answers page. It goes to why you should (not) go to conferences.

I have not visited, nor did I know of, this conference. I can however tell you that visiting a conference without having a plan or doing research makes the trip useless. Asking the question here is a good way of finding this out.

Ask yourself this:

  • Are you Buying or Selling?
  • Will you earn back the initial outlay of the conference in the next 6 months? 12 months? 18 months? Establish a time frame you could earn back the money, how close will that be to the effective time frame.
  • Will you earn it back indirectly?
  • Will you lose income by not going?

If you are buying, are you:

  • going there to buy a product? Don’t forget that you a paying to see speaker, his information/knowledge is his product.
  • going to get information about a product or service you might buy?

If you are selling, are you:

  • going to market your product or services to the participants?
  • going to sell your product or services?
  • going to do customer research?
  • going to meet customers?

I go to many IT and Telecommunication conferences because I gain knowledge. I go to others because they are of interest, although not directly applicable to my field. I almost always answer “yes” to most, if not all, of the questions above.

I hope it’s useful when you need to make a choice.
