FourSquare Tips containing Adverts #gps #geolocation #jobs
I recently started noticing that certain locations that I check into had tips which were usually for companies close to that location. An example it the ING Bank advertising their career site when you are in the discount electronics shop across the road or in the mall. Or Heineken informing you that you can link your FourSquare profile to your Heineken profile.

The Do’s and Don’t’s Live Blogging an Event
I lived microblogged my second event today, the goodbye too Roel van Duijn. It was quite fun, and I was getting some interesting looks from people as I was typing my commentary into my BlackBerry. I wasn’t entirely satisfied with the ease. Both of the events I used Ping.FM, the first using GTalk, which was easy, and the second using Ping.FM Mobile, which is terrible together with the BlackBerry browser.
Firstly I learned I should have read the following two articles, which contain handy tips:
I really should have prepared before I went, I didn’t know the names of all the guests and didn’t know the schedule. I was slightly late, and as I didn’t know I was going I didn’t really have time to prepare. I really should have used HashTags, I did think about it, but it was all going fast enough that the fleeting thought was discarded.
So I’ll know for next time to:
- Do come prepared
- Do know who is speaking
- Do use an easy to use tool
- Do use hashtags
- Do take pictures
- Don’t forget the names of the speakers
- Don’t attract too much attention
- Don’t arrive late
I’ll update this list and repost with anything which pops into my mind, and naturally comments are welcome.

Examining Profilactic
So I’ve been playing with Profilactic, which is similar to FriendFeed, although I won’t call it a clone. One of it’s selling points is that it supports 190 sites, as I have many of these sites hooked into my Ping.FM (currently down) like FriendFeed it collates all the messages that I distribute into the microblogosphere.
Thanks to DutchMob for the hint.

Short Blog Posts Vanishing (UPDATED) #ping.fm
You might have noticed that some subjectless, single blog line posts are added to this blog during the day, they may contain a location or an activity as would be more appropriate for a Twitter or a BrightKite feed. These truncated blog posts are actually the microblogs – or status updates – which I’m sending with my GTalk client for the CrackBerry to Ping.fm – which syndicates my microblogs to 20+ sites including Twitter. Sadly enough these messages are erroneously being posted to WordPress by Ping.fm.
I am currently employing two options for correcting this:
- Use my custom trigger (shortcut #ms) to post to all my microblogs – by way of Ping.fm – with the exception of WordPress
- In case a message is posted incorrectly, remove the WordPress item from the blog manually
This does mean that typos cause these microblogs to appear here until I manually remove them, however leaving WordPress active in Ping.fm still makes it possible for me to write a blog post in Ping.fm and have it syndicated to all my blogs. Were I to decide to remove WordPress from Ping.fm I would most likely lose a good part of the automated syndication of my blog postings.
UPDATE: I think I’ve been able to disable this for WordPress, we’ll wait and see…
Please tell me if this issue bothers you, I will try to avoid erroneous messages as much as possible.

Twits like me
As you may know my blogs are automatically posted to Twitter, but I found a nice tool to find people who post similar tweets: Twits Like Me.

Tagging your Twitter #folksonomy #hashtags
I love folksonomy, and so finding a folksonomy option for Twitter makes me excited. #hashtags makes it possible to tag your messages follow @hashtags.
As my posts are automatically send as tweets this means that I need to add the #hashtags to my subject line. From a SEO point of view the way the permalinks are created it’s an excuse to create better indices of the URLs.

Twitter buys Summize
Yesterday in Search Twitter I mentioned Summize, it now redirects too http://search.twitter.com/. Twitter apparently bought them for $15 million.
