IBC 2008
This year from the 12th until the 16th of September the IBC returns to the RAI in Amsterdam. I missed last year’s exhibition and conference, though I’d arranged tickets for myself, so I’ve made myself a promise that I would go this year.
IBC exhibition “… showcase[s] the latest technology and foremost business ideas in broadcasting and new media.” The conference focuses particularly “… around mobile multimedia, IPTV and 4th generation communication systems. [And] events like What Caught my Eye will cover both production and mobile exhibits, and will once more be open to all.”
This year I hope that they have finally implemented the 2D browsing system, similar to the iTunes interface, with live streaming in the peripheral screens on a Set-Top-Box. When I went in 2006 they (can’t remember which company) were faking it using a PC, as the current STBs didn’t have a powerful MPEGX decoder chip to be able to decode multiple streams simultaneously. They were using MPEG2, if memory serves, I’d obviously prefer MPEG4.
