Stichting Laluz

I had a fantastic early evening (7-8pm) at the Foundation . Laluz is a foundation that organizes resources and recruitment of volunteers for charity organizations. And I was there to pitched two things:

  • a free “timeshare” on an enterprise system[1] which handles project, resource, financial and profile management for enterprise size customers as SaaS or install-based. In my and Gartner’s opinion, this far exceeds the possibilities and options of the sponsored system they use[2]. (Gartner places it in the top-right of the Magic Quadrant[3], above all the other products.) I wanted to use Laluz as our testcase for taking a enterprise system and make it available as a , in other words they would use an enterprise level product and our return would be feedback. This was the first time I was “selling” the platform, and I failed even to give it away. 🙂
  • DWC (me) as a Social Media and Social/Business Networking Coach. I often explain that I am NOT a marketeer and do NOT give marketing advise, and I am often asked to give generalized marketing advise as it relates to SM and SM projects. Sometimes the projects are: “SO TOO EVIL” that I give simple advise and try to extricate myself as quickly as possible. IOW get the fuck out of the building before I lynch myself. 😉 I’m very happy that wasn’t the case with Laluz.

Fun times today!

  1. Sadly I can’t tell you what enterprise system I’m talking about, nor can I speak too much about the SME solution which is currently in development, as this is a charity case which the enterprise company doesn’t want to promote, for fear of getting too many requests.
  2. Again I can’t comment, but I will contact them and see how I can help them.

Sightsavers Sunday #who #bbc

leave a comment »

Ever since my father exchanged my expensive Christmas gifts for a card which read something like: “A donation was made in your name to SiteSavers” Although I did deserve the gifts – I had been very good, thank you very much – I saw that there were people who needed a gift more: The gift of sight.

“[Today] Sightsavers is asking churches across the UK to join together in worship to mark World Sight Day. […] This year special focus will be placed on women and blindness as various cultural, social and economic barriers often lead to women and girls becoming the last in line to receive appropriate medical treatments.”

World Sight Day is an initiative of The International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) and the WHO‘s Prevention of Blindness and Deafness program under the title VISION 2020: The Right to Sight

Young in Prison – A Moment of Freedom

leave a comment »

Young in Prison [YiP] was started in Februari of 2002 by Noa Lodeizen. Two years earlier she worked as a volunteer in Poolsmore prison in Capetown. There she saw the traumatic and mind environment in which the youths had to stay.

To improve the situation a benefit is organized on an afternoon in Amsterdam’s Superclub. The profits, including donations, are used to start up the first project Capoeira in Prison.

Since then YiP has become an organization of over thirty volunteers and ten local employees in the countries themselves. Together they work to improve the conditions and mental well being for the Young in Prison.
