Why Open Source is good

In 1995 UNLV named an internal HP OCR engine one of the best OCR engines, Tesseract OCR. In the period between 1995 and 2006 little work was done on it, but when it was release to the FOSS community it was picked up and, according to the site, “…one of the most accurate open source OCR engines available.

If it hadn’t been released it would have probably remained on a HP CVS somewhere collecting dust, thanks Carly.
